Friday Fashion Tip

Add visual interest to your outfit with a printed vintage purse.

One easy way to add some pop to your look is to incorporate a fun, vintage piece.  I got this 1970s quilted handbag at a yard sale for $1.50 back in 2002.  I think that was money well spent.

I wore it to the Greentopia Sneak Peek for the Rochester Blogger Network last night and got a ton of compliments on it.  Someone even asked if it was the new Vera Bradley pattern!  Love it!

Here is how I styled it:
(Apologies for the crappy #selfies - my official photographer (the hubs) coaches football it's double session time.)

Acute Designs earrings, Old Navy top, Anthropologie belt,
Lands End Canvas skirt
I think that's my "sexy secretary face"
And this is the infamous "smile with head tilt"
I need to trademark that shiz...
And the #selfie headshot (another classic)
I'm kind of loving my new frames.  I think they scream:  I run a blogger network - don't you?

Looking for a fab, vintage item to kick your wardrobe up a notch?  Why not check out my three favorite vintage retailers in good ol' Rachacha:

1.  Far Out Vintage
2.  Panache Vintage and Finer Consignment
3.  Treasure Trove Vintage

Be sure to tell them The Flower City Fashionista sent ya!

xoxo

PS- If you're not local, save your tears.  You don't have to miss out on all the fun, thankfully Al Gore invented the internet so shop, shop, shop!

Joe Fresh at JCP Makes Me Happy

Let's take a moment to discuss how excited I was to stumble upon Joe Fresh at JCPenney the other day...

I was literally take my breath away excited.

Just this past summer, my best friend and I spent the better part of a day scouring Manhattan for a certain v-neck Joe Fresh t-shirt (that could only be bought at Joe Fresh stores) only to find them sold out at all Manhattan locations.  Major.  Bummer. (And Major Blisters!)

You can imagine my pure elation when, eight months later, I find this elusive t-shirt at my local JCPenney store of all places.

It took everything in me not to buy it in every color.  I kept myself under control and grabbed white and navy (I already own gray and coral) and snuck in a pair of mint zip ankle pants for good measure.

It was a good day.  A really good day.

Last Saturday (unlike today) it was actually warm enough to wear them.

Here is what I wore:
Joe Fresh Ankle Skinnies, Nine West ballet flats
Vintage head scarf and my badonkadonk
Madewell sunglasses, JCP Chambray button down,
and the best t-shirt ever:  Joe Fresh V-neck

And what spring time look would be complete without a neon arm party?

Here's mine:

Arm party brought to you by:  Fahsye, InPink, and the GAP

What new fashion collaboration are you most excited about this spring?  And are you as obsessed with mint as I am?  It's kind of becoming an obsession...

Love ya like I love Joe Fresh,

xoxo

Date Night Closet Remix

You don't need to break the bank to ramp up your date night wardrobe.  Chances are, there are some pretty fabulous pieces already in your closet.  I love mixing old pieces to create something new.  I bought this skirt two years ago to wear to a baby shower and art show.  I paired it with heeled sandals, a tank, and black wooden jewelry.

Fast forward to last night:  Dado Fashion Show...

I took the same skirt and put on a long sleeve Express crew neck tee and bright Hue tights to create a whole new look.  I added some vintage jewelry, my new Buffalo motorcycle jacket, a Kate Spade bag and my favorite Nine West peep toe booties.   Voila!  Now I've got a fall look that's a little edgy, a little fun, and a bold pop of color to boot!  The only new items (bought this season) were the tights and the jacket.  So for around $100, I completely updated my date night wardrobe.

What do you think?  Suitable for a night out on the town?  Or should this ensemble have stayed in the back of my closet?

What's your go-to date night look?

xoxo

Wearing Lately

Just a quick outfit post today...

Here's what I've been wearing lately:

DSW hat (didn't buy it), H&M dress and bangle, Target cowboy boots, Anthro belt,
Artwark necklace,  Michael Kors watch.
I got that bag at an accessories swap.

MM Couture dress via Dado, Michael Kors watch,
F21 bangles, Nine West shoes, vintage bag

Had a great night out Thursday with my girlfriend Jeree.  We had dinner at Sushi Lounge and then drinks at the rooftop bar at the W in Hoboken.  She's still single and living the fabulous life, so it was nice to tag along.  Us mommies need to get out too, ya know :)

Enjoying the view (and the cocktails) with Jeree

I am also happy to report that I was not hungover at the zoo yesterday.  Yay!  It was a great day (a little hot, but great) and the boys had a blast.  And they both got new Bronx Zoo hats.  Too cute!

Anthro t-shirt, Old Navy shorts, F21 sunglasses,
Reef flip flops via Bikinis and More in Fenwick Island Delaware

OMG that face!

That's all for now!

Off to my little cousin's 11th birthday party!

Have a great weekend!

I've got another giveaway, and this time, you don't have to live in Rochester to participate.  Yay!  (You do, however, need to live in the continental US).  Sorry!

Morgan, over at Treasure Trove Vintage, is giving away this early 1960's genuine leather purse. It has a nice divider in the middle and an optional chain in case you don't want to use it as a clutch.  Such a classic piece!  If I could enter my own give-away I would!

Weekend Wardrobe

I know, I know, I know...it's Wednesday.  What I wore this weekend is old news.  In my defense, I've been working on a piece for a book that needs to be in to my editor by July 1.  So yeah, blogging is on the back burner until I get it done.

With that said, I am LOVING writing again.  I know I write my blog, but this is different.  It's like reuniting with a new friend.  My dining room table is covered in books and journal articles, highlighters are out, and notes are being taken.  It.feels.so.good.

But I digress, and this is after all, a fashion blog, sooooo on to the clothes...

Saturday we celebrated our five year wedding anniversary with margaritas at Salena's outdoor bar and dinner at Good Luck.  So delish!  Here is what I wore:

Anthropologie dress and bracelet, Calvin Klein heels, Louis Vuitton bag,
Michael Kors watch, Banana Republic earrings, vintage ring
In front of Good Luck
Posing...
Love the criss cross back!
At the table wearing my new chocolate diamond necklace and ring.
The hubs and I said we weren't exchanging gifts...
Naughty, naughty.

Instagram/Picstich summary of the evening

For Father's Day we laid low.  Went to church, cleaned out the garage, dinner at TGI Fridays, and shopping at BJ's wholesale... ahhh the glamourous life I lead!

Mossimo for Target shoes,  MinkPink skirt via Dado, Michael Kors watch,
H&M tank, Anthropologie belt, Forever 21 sunglasses
Colt is wearing Carters shorts and polo shirt, Toy Story alien socks,
and a plastic lei as ammo.  My kid is awesome.

Despite it being hump day and the week being half over...how was your weekend?  Any exciting plans for this weekend coming up?  I think it's time to BBQ with some friends...drinks on the deck, anyone?

Shabby Apple

A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon Shabby Apple, an online dress boutique selling women’s dresses, casual dresses, skirts, and women’s apparel.  I love the vintage and feminine feel of the clothes on this site and as I researched more about the company I started to like Shabby Apple even more.

They credit themselves as providing "a return to what dresses were always meant to be — a one-piece outfit. No need to add anything...no tank tops, no cardigans, nothing (except accessories, of course!)."
Their modest fashions strive to make women feel feminine and beautiful for "what they wear, not what they bare." (Love that!)  Not only can their flirty, stylish dresses be worn comfortably anywhere, but they also donate a certain percentage of their net proceeds to charitable causes serving women and children.  Couture with a conscience; how cool is that?

If the principles behind the company aren't enough to make you want to shop with them, their merchandise will.  Here are some of the Shabby Apple pieces I am loving right now:

Walk the Plank Dress $88

Bandersnatch Skirt $72

Pina Colada Dress $96

Joy Ride Dress on sale for $58

Heart of Me Dress $109

Blue Eyes Dress $96

FYI:  Shabby Apple offers free shipping on orders over $100 and fast and free returns!  I'm always hesitant to order clothes online without being able to try them on, but the free returns let me shop worry-free.  Now I just need to figure out what I want to buy....

What do you think I should get?

Back in Black

Hello!  Sorry for being MIA.  I threw my back out on Thursday and have been hopped up on pain killers and muscle relaxers for the last few days.  Since I have impeccable timing (aka the worst luck), my 30th birthday party was Saturday and despite hefty prescription drugs and multiple visits to the chiropractor, I was still in pretty bad shape.  I was in [tolerable] pain all night, had trouble getting in and out of the limo, couldn't dance at da club, had to cancel my blow out appointment, and worst of all: could not wear heels, which ruined my outfit!

Here are the shoes I planned on wearing:
Beverly Feldman Shoes
Here are the shoes I had to wear to avoid ending up in traction:

Thankfully, I have an amazing group of friends who helped me rally and have a great time despite the crappy circumstances.  Two of my besties even flew in from NYC to celebrate!  I just wish I could have been more fun [read: drank tequila].  I'm pretty sure everyone had a good time in spite of my crooked back, slow moving gate, and overall lameness.

Here are some pics from the night:

A bulging disc is no match for a group of
stay-at-home moms in a limousine
Besties!
On our way to Salena's!
Jeanne and I have been friends since Kindergarten.
I'm pretty sure this is the only time we've been
even close to the same height.
(I'm in flats, she's in platform wedges)
ONE Nightclub:

And since inquiring minds like to know and this is supposed to be a fashion blog:  I'm wearing a BCBG top, vintage necklace, a.n.a. black skinny jeans, Steve Madden shoes, Movado watch, Silpada ring, thrifted earrings, and Jewelry by Lindsay bracelet.

A big thanks to everyone who shared in my special day!   I'm so blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life!

Smooches,

Jenny
