Made in America Monday

Hey, remember when I used to post EVERY Monday for my "Made in America Monday" series?

Neither do I.

Oh and I do know that today is Thursday.  I'm not that far gone... yet.

I also know that I already posted today.  Don't worry, I'm still in possession of the few marbles I have left.  Think of this bonus post as an early Easter gift to you.  #yourewelcome

What I have to share was just too good to pass up.

We all know how much I love USA Love List, so when I read this post about Venley (amazingly priced men's and women's clothing that is made in Los Angeles), I had to share it with you.  I mean, we are talking discounts on already great prices AND a giveaway with 20 winners, it would be completely selfish of me to not pay it forward.

So here's the scoop:

Go here, to get the skinny on Venley's #occupyyourcloset twitter giveaway.

Use offer code "USALoveList" to save 35% (that is not a typo) at www.wearvenley.com

Know that I am buying this (at 35% off) as soon as I am done with this post.

And last, but certainly not least:  Wear American, Buy American, and Occupy Your Closet.

Have a great Easter weekend kiddos!

Hope the bunny brings you some sweet treats!

Personal Shopper by SHOP YOUR WAY(SM)Personal Shopper Monthly
Tips, New Features and Advice for your business
March 2013
JENNIFER SANZO
Some people are masters at personal marketing. Take, for instance, our Spotlight Shopper of the month Jennifer Sanzo. From gift card giveaways to sponsored posts on fellow bloggers' sites and face-to-face meet-up events, Jennifer knows how to make the most of her networking opportunities!

A fashion and beauty blogger and one-time sales director for a well-known brand of independent beauty consultants, this Personal Shopper has a track record for strategies that work. One of them is balancing.

"I plan on working with my local Kmart and Sears stores to do in-store personal shopping and styling events where I can recruit and work with clients face to face," she said. "I'll have my iPad handy to sign up new clients on the spot."

Intrigued? Here are a few more of Jennifer's top tips.

• Never stop networking. "You should always focus on how you are going to grow your business and grow your client base. Set goals. How many people will you talk to today? How many business cards will you hand out?"
• Encourage your clients to shop outside of their comfort zone. For example, she says, she'll reach out to clients with the product they asked about, and add a question: "Anything else I can help you with? Do you need anything for the house? The kids? Let me know!"
• Be yourself. "People are going to want to work with you if you come across real and genuine. Think about building your own business—because you are! A business with unlimited income potential."
GREAT PERSONAL SHOPPERS
HAVE GREAT PERSONAL BRANDS!

What makes you a great Personal Shopper? Is it your knack for knowing great deals? Does your eye for style give the fashion mags a run for their money? Whatever your strengths, they're yours, and they're unique. Are you using them to create your personal brand?

Your personal brand—how you market yourself and your business—is crucial to establishing a robust client network. It's how you will stand out in a sea of email and options. It's how you will connect with your clients.

So how can you create a strong personal brand? Scott Multer, Creative Director, Integrated Retail with Sears Holdings Corp., suggests you ask yourself these questions first.

How do you define your brand? Start by determining your target audience and expertise. Perhaps you're a lawn care genius, appliances guru or fashionista. Leverage your knowledge to provide customers an extraordinary shopping experience!
What do you want people to know? What do you offer as a Personal Shopper that nobody else can deliver? Use communications outlets like your Storefront and social media pages to share successful stories and skills with potential clients.
What do you want people to do? Turn to you as their Personal Shopper of course! Get to know your customers, and what they like or don't like. Listen to them carefully and reflect what you've learned in your suggestions, and they'll be that much more likely show you loyalty and be your champion!

Lendperk - Netflix for Dresses - Review and Giveaway

I can not wait to tell you about Lendperk, a new company that allows you to rent dresses in the form of a month-to-month subscription service.  There are three plans available - $49/month for an unlimited number of dress rentals, $34/month for two dress rentals, or $20/month for one dress rental.  You can cancel at any time and have the option to  "rollover" dress rentals that you don't use.  Sweet. Deal.

I was thrilled when Lendperk asked me to review their services and offered to give away a free two week rental to one lucky reader.  As a blogger and local personality, I attend a lot of events.  While I'd love to run out and buy a new outfit every time, that's just not in the budget.  Not. Even. Close. However, $20 a month to be guaranteed something fresh to wear to events is completely doable.  And since Lendperk offers selections from my favorite brands, it's a match made in heaven.  Oh, and not having to worry about ironing or dry cleaning = PRICELESS :)

Here I am in my first "rental" dress that arrived perfectly pressed:
Taylor Pink Bubble Dress c/o Lendperk
Hair and makeup c/o Shear Ego Salon and Spa
Francesca's collection bow earrings
Thrifted necklace
Newport News bag
DKNY tights
Nine West peep toe bow pumps
Here is the dress from ten more angles:
I'm wearing a 6, but probably could have gone with a size 4.
Definitely order a size down with this dress.
See?  I wasn't kidding.  Ten.

In any event...

The dress was a big hit at dinner.  I was getting compliments left and right.  I can definitely get used to having new dresses on my doorstep every month!

And here's the good news for all of you:  to make it easier for newcomers to try out their service with no financial obligation, Lendperk is offering a  9 day FREE trial for every monthly plan. You can check out one dress during this rental trial for free with no obligation to continue!  And if that's not exciting enough, one lucky reader will get a free two week rental of any dress in their collection!

Do Not

I repeat:  do not go into Target shoe department if you are on any sort of a budget.

I, unsuspectedly entered the shoe department exactly one week ago today in search of a pair of chuck taylors.  While I did not find the Converse sneakers of my dreams, what I did find was wedges... three pairs of wedges.  Yes, I bought three pairs of shoes.  Like I'm made of money.  Like I buy three pairs of shoes in one shopping trip every day of my life.  Like that money shouldn't have been spent on groceries instead.

But, at the end of the day, I'm only human.  How could I resist?  I mean, look at them!

Ignore my month-old pedicure and focus on the overall picture...

Want to know what the kicker is?  I can't even wear the damn shoes because it still snows every freaking day up here in the arctic tundra.

But one day, I know the sun will come out again, I'll put on an ankle pant, a cropped skinny, or a flirty sundress and my new wedges and I will smile knowing that I might be hungry, but I sure do look cute.

It's called priorities, people.

And this is called sharing bad habits or as I like to call it...friendship:
Spend $75, Get Free Shipping on Shoes at Target.com

You're welcome.  I'm sorry.

Peace out kiddos.

Have a great weekend!

Stella and Dot Giveaway

Woot! Woot!

I am a big fan of Stella and Dot jewelry.  If money were no object, I'd buy the entire catalog.  True.  Story.  I'm also a big fan of giving away free stuff to my readers and supporting my fellow Apraxia warrior mamas.  Let's think of this as the proverbial two birds with one stone effect.

I "met"  Christine last summer when we "shared" an apartment for summer SPEAK with Nancy Kaufman.  When I say "met" I mean chatted online and when I say "shared" I mean she moved into the aparentment the day we moved out and I left her some TP and dishsoap.  Same.  Difference.  I am so grateful that the internet/social media/blogging has allowed me to "meet" so many other parents who are on this Apraxia journey with me.  I've made "friends" that I am know will last a lifetime and Christine is surely one of them.

But, enough of the all that lovey dovey stuff, let's get to the jewelry shall we?

Fantastic.

So the lovely Christine Roeske is giving away one of my personal favorites:   the gilded arrow bracelet (retail $39):

I have this bracelet and absolutely love it.  It looks adorable flying solo (see what I did there?) or hanging out with some friends.  Here is how I love to wear mine:

Saturday Night Fever

Last Saturday night THIS happened:
I went from housewife to disco diva.
It's not every day I get to rock and afro and platforms (and its a damn shame) but at the Ugly Disco this type of attire isn't just accepted, it's encouraged.  The more outrageous, the better, and all of the proceeds go to charity.  Win-Win.

God knows I love to dress up.  As a kid, I won the costume contest at the Ringwood Firehouse every Halloween.  The kids on the bus started teasing me saying that it was rigged and that they knew my uncle was the judge.  Neither was true. I just had the best costumes EVER and when this girl has a costume on she gets into CHARACTER.  You put a Southern Belle outfit on my six-year-old self and you better know I'm rocking a southern accent complete with a Scarlett O'Hara "fiddle dee dee" to boot.  When I was dressed up as Nefretiri and you thought I was Cleopatra, I not only corrected you, but also quoted lines from The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston.  I'm a winner; a dress up winner.  Just ask the kids on bus route HB-2.

At thirty, things aren't much different.  Throughout the course of the evening, I definitely heard myself say (out loud and on instagram) "Step aside Foxy Brown, there's a new 'fro in town."

But honestly, can you blame me?

I mean, check this out:

We're like twins for crying out loud!
All proceeds went to benefit Golisano Children's Hospital, a cause near and dear to my heart.  It was a great night for a great cause and I'm already planning my outfit for next year...

Ugly Disco 2013

Let me leave you with the infinite wisdom of those wise philosophers otherwise known as A Taste of Honey:

"If you're thinkin' you're too cool to boogie, Boy, oh boy have I got news for you
Everybody here tonight must boogie
Let me tell ya' you are no exception to the rule
Get on up on the floor
Cuz we're gonna boogie oogie oogie til you just can't boogie no more."

Peace out,

xoxo

Spring Trend Watch: Floral Pants

If you've opened up a magazine in the last few months you've seen them:  floral pants.

I can't decide how I feel.  I'm on the fence.  In flux.  Wishy.  Washy.

Here they are styled three ways in Lucky Magazine's April 2013 issue:

Look 1:  Peplum and Oxfords
Look 2:  Mixing Stripes and Florals
Look 3:  Sweatshirt, heavy metal details
Here they are in anthropologie:

Here's me trying on a pair in the Sears dressing room:

I couldn't decide - so I didn't buy them.   But, I keep thinking about them.

So I did what any other red-blooded American woman would do:

I conducted an uber-scientic poll on facebook to see what my friends thought.

I got the following responses:

(I've removed identities to protect the innocent)
  1. "Super cute!"
  2. "You look good in anything but i think the pants themselves are just awful!!!! lol."
  3. "I'm so out of the loop. My grandma had a couch that looked just like that."
  4. "I definitely had a backpack like those. I LOVED that backpack. In 1993."
  5. "They would be great for spring and they look super cute!"
  6. I don't know... A yellow tank and tori burch flips with a cute necklace might do the trick. I like things other people hate lol"
  7. "Super cute"
  8. "Everything old is new again. if anyone could pull them off, it would be you"
  9. "I like them!"
  10. No." <--- perhaps my favorite response of all - an emphatic NO lol
  11. "I would feel like such an ass, but as everyone has said you look cute and can totally pull them off."
  12. "Buy them you can wear them they are cute! Def flats and yellow or even coral tank"
  13. Love them!!"
  14. "Of course!"
  15. DOOOO ITTTTT!!!! Lol! You look amazing in them and they are adorbs :))"
  16. No. In one month you will not regret not buying them."
  17. I think you would have to move to Florida to get good use out of them."
What do you think?  Yea?  Or nay?

I still can't decide.  Seventeen people weighed in and I can't make a decision.  I feel like my mother.

I mean they are on sale for $23.99.. worst case scenario I wear them once and consign them.  Right?  Right??  They look just like the ones in anthro... Ugh!  Tell me what to do!

Tell. Me. What. To. Do.

xoxo
