PS- Leaving today for NYC - Lucky FABB here I come!  Let's just say I didn't under pack - by the size of my suitcase you'd think I was spending a month in Europe, not three days in New York... oops!

Two for Tuesday: Polka Dots and Animal Spots

Think you can pair animal prints with polka dots and not look like the crazy cat lady?

I'm about to tell you that you can.

I say, rock those polka dots and animal spots.  I also say thank God for Hilary Rushford and #stylemeoctober.  How did I ever get dressed all by myself?

Todays look:
Earrings: c/o Aldo
Sweater:  Kmart
Necklace:  Claire Flair
Bracelets:  Stella and Dot, JCrew, Jewelry by Lindsay, and thrifted
Watch:  Michael Kors
Jeans:  Forever 21
Shoes:  GAP
Nail Decals:  Forever 21 (peeled right off - I recommend Sephora brand instead)
Want to know the best part about this outfit?  Total cost (not including jewelry) =  $33.00!!!  People, I am rounding up!  I paid $18 for the sweater, $8 for the jeans, and $7 for the shoes.

Let me teach you my ways.  Hire me as your personal shopper.

How do you feel about mixing animal prints and polka dots?  Cute? Or Ca-razy?  You don't need to tell me how you feel about a $33 outfit - I know you love it ;).

From the Ground: What I wore

What do you wear to an eco-friendly fashion show?

Why vegan leather, glasses, and a beanie of course!

Hat:  Forever 21 (similar)
Glasses:  Coach  (similar in black)
Scarf:  Storiarts
Jacket:  Buffalo (similar)
Tee:  Max Studio (TJ Maxx)
Pants:  GAP
Bag:  Kate Spade
Booties:  Target

Actual conversation with my husband during our "photoshoot" (I use the term loosely).

Him:  "You're wearing LEATHER to the GREENTOPIA fashion show?  Someone is going to throw paint on you!"

Me:  "It's pleather."

Him:  "THEY don't know that!"

And that, ladies and gentleman, is one of the many reasons why he is awesome.

I later learned that the cool way to say pleather is "vegan leather."  How chic.  How green.  How devoid of any negative connotations established in the late 80s and early 90s...

PS- Those Target booties are "vegan suede."  Can't say the same for that Kate Spade bag though...

Happy Friday!

Which to do prefer comfy flats or sky high heels?

Made in America Monday - Upcyled Chic from r.v.f.

I love the idea of upcycling fashion and turning vintage pieces and fabrics into something fresh and modern.  It's eco-friendly, budget-friendly, and results in the creation of fresh, one of a kind pieces carefully designed and pieced together by the artists themselves.  I like to think that these designers are creating pieces that are "re-made" in America.  ;)

Renewed Vintage Fabrics (r.v.f.) the perfect example of how a skilled eye and trained hand can turn goodwill finds and fabrics from years gone by into sustainable, fun fashion that is easy on both your pocket book and the environment.  Win-win.

r.v.f. tag
Check out the designer's blog here.

Earlier month I visited Renewal Resale in Riverdale NJ to check out the new r.v.f. label.  I fell in love.

Here are a few of the pieces I tried:

How cute is this vintage cropped denim vest with lace insets?
How about these cut offs made from a pair of old Old Navy Jeans and hand-painted with stars and stripes?
If it wasn't for my thunder thighs, I'd be rocking these puppies for 4th of July!  Love!
I did end up buying this adorable upcylced racer back tank.  I love the bow detailing on the back.  (That bow is made from the same 1960s lace dress that was used on the vest pictured above - so cool!)
r.v.f. tank, GAP boyfriend shorts, Bongo sandals from Kmart = easy summer style.
How do you feel about clothing being "re-made" in America?  Do you own any upcylced pieces? Please share your thoughts/links below.

xoxo

PS- Thanks for not jumping ship during my hiatus ;)  Cry no more kids, I'm back.  ;)

Day to Evening

I love using accessories to change the look of an outfit.  Without them a striped tee and jeans is nothing special, but when you add the right accessories you can really transform a look.  Take this Old Navy tee and GAP boyfriend jeans:

For daytime I paired them with a Joe Boxer neon orange striped scarf, Route 66 sandals, Madewell sunnies, and gold and neon jewelry.

For evening, I popped on some Calvin Klein coral suede heels, a JCREW glitter clutch, some statement bracelets, and a necklace.

The end result is two distinct looks, using basic pieces from my wardrobe.  My rule of thumb:  when in doubt, accessorize!  ;)

What are your favorite pieces to dress up and down?

Wannabe Pinup Girl

I've always loved vintage and vintage-inspired clothing and I've been dying to wear new retro cherry dress from Anthropologie.  Good thing the hubs took me out for a nice birthday dinner sans kiddos!  I even had my hair styled in 1940s curls for the occasion.

Here is how it all came together:

Hair:  Jordan at Beau Monde Salon and Spa in Victor NY
Kenneth Cole sunnies
Hi There from Karen Walker Cereja Dress via Anthropologie
GAP clutch
Nine West shoes
Anthropologie bracelet, Francesca's earrings,  and Michael Kors watch

What do you think?  Loving the bombshell look?  Or too over-the-top?

xoxo

Ripped Jeans as Evening Wear? Just Add Glitter.

You can get the details of my fabulous Saturday spent enjoying the best in Rochester fashion, beauty, and nightlife over at Flower City Fashion and Beauty.  Here, we're going to talk about the important stuff:  like what I'm wearing and how to dress up a boyfriend jean and t-shirt with evening accessories. ;)

I needed an outfit that would transition from salon time, to front row seats at a fashion show, to a VIP after party at one of the chicest spots in Rochester.  Not an easy task.

 Here is what I wore:

Old Navy tee, Gap sexy boyfriend jeans, Madewell sunnies.
Hair, makeup, and gel mani c/o Allora Salon and Spa in Victor, NY.

You take away my jewelry, throw my hair in a pony, and slap on some flip flops and this look is about as casual as it gets, but paired with the right accessories, a great pair of ripped boyfriend jeans can take you from day to night like it's nobody's business.

Exhibit A - The Bag:  J.Crew Glitter Clutch

Exhibit B - The Jewels and Nails
Bracelets:  Jewelry by Lindsay, thrifted, J.Crew
Rings:  Estate chocolate diamonds, Madewell
What can I say?  A perfect gel mani in a look-at-me, bold shade can really pull a look together.
Michael Kors Watch
Bracelets:  Groop Dealz, Stella and Dot, BallaBling
Exhibit C - The Shoes:  Calvin Klein Coral Suede and Cork Heels

You can take a super casual outfit (boyfriend jeans and tee) to the next level by pairing on-trend evening accessories.  Add some bling, an evening bag, and a pair of killer heels, and you just took your look from day to night.  (And kept things super-comfy to boot).  Win-win.  When in doubt, add some glitter.  It seems to work for Ke$ha...

What's your go-to look to take you from day to evening?

xoxo
