Blazer a New Trail

I'm not a blazer girl.  I have girlfriends with closets full of them, but I'd much rather just throw on my moto jacket.  However, in an effort to look a little more profesh at Lucky FABB, I bought myself my first (in a loooong time) blazer at Forever 21.  While I didn't end up wearing at the conference, I did pull it out last week for a Girl's Night Out Event at Cornell's Jewellers. 

Here is how I styled it (apologies for the crappy photos):

The cropped pants, lace shell, leopard heels, and studded bag keep this look from being too conservative, but I can't say that I'll be hopping on the blazer band wagon anytime soon.  It still feels a little too "buttoned up" for my personal taste.  One blazer in my closet is plenty.  I'll stick with my boho-glam, hippy-chic, artsy-girl clothes a little while longer.

What do you wear to an eco-friendly fashion show?

Why vegan leather, glasses, and a beanie of course!

Actual conversation with my husband during our "photoshoot" (I use the term loosely).

Him:  "You're wearing LEATHER to the GREENTOPIA fashion show?  Someone is going to throw paint on you!"

Me:  "It's pleather."

Him:  "THEY don't know that!"

And that, ladies and gentleman, is one of the many reasons why he is awesome.

I later learned that the cool way to say pleather is "vegan leather."  How chic.  How green.  How devoid of any negative connotations established in the late 80s and early 90s...

PS- Those Target booties are "vegan suede."  Can't say the same for that Kate Spade bag though...

Three Steps to Simple Style

Despite what you may think, looking put together doesn't require a ton of time and energy.  Today I am  going to show you how to put together an outfit in three simple steps using items you already have in your wardrobe.  Who's excited?

Before we get started, let's get one thing straight.  I'm going to assume you have pants on.  If you don't, put some on.  Pretty much any pants will do aside from sweats pants, other lounge pants, pajama jeans etc.  We're talking actual pants, with structure, and maybe even a zipper.

Ok let's begin.

Step 1:  Put on a graphic tee.  (You can wear a plain tee if you're boring.)

I'm wearing a large.

Step 2:  Slap on a cardigan - maybe in a bright color.  I chose emerald green, which happens to be Pantone's color for 2013.  (What can I say?  I'm cool like that.)

Central Park

As promised, here are the details on the outfit I wore in the city on Friday.  What a perfect fall day in Central Park!

Let's go from top to bottom, shall we?

I am wearing my favorite beanie from Forever 21, Mossimo for Target sunglasses, Kenneth Cole hoop earrings, Ann Taylor cashmere scarf, faux leather jacket by Buffalo, H&M sweater, Old Navy bag, a.n.a jeans and you guessed it, my Fabianelli riding boots from Marshalls.

More Mexico Memories

Let's start today's Mexico recap with a short story.  Shall we?

Now as you read this I need you to imagine Antonio Banderas as the character of Puss in Boots reading the part of the resort employee.

Day two at the pool I am approached by a young gentlemen who works there.  He proceeds to say to me:  "We see you and your friend.  You walk like thissssss (he struts his stuff).  You have personality and style.  I like it.  We see you and we look at each other.  And we say:  they... are... fannnnnncy.

pause

I laugh and smile.

pause

"Twenty dollars?"

Look of horror.

"Just kidding."

I laugh nervously as I quickly walk away.

Yes he suggested that I was a hooker.  And he sounds EXACTLY like Puss in Boots.

Great.

Despite the beautiful grounds and ocean front location (and help propositioning me for sex), the food was horrible.  Terrible.  Possibly THE WORST FOOD I've ever eaten.  That first night we arrived we skipped dinner (lucky us).  Saturday, we got dressed up and headed to El Greco expecting a five star meal, not the freezer burned fish stick trying to pass itself off as "Meditteranean Grouper."  Blech.  We walked out.  At least we looked good doing it.

Here are our evening wardrobe selections for that night:

Sunday we spent the morning at the pool, the afternoon at the spa, and geared up for another awful dinner.  We ate at an Italian restaurant.  The garlic bread reminding me of licking an ashtray or sucking on a charcoal brigette.  Either way, it was awful.  Can't I just have a beer and some chips and guacamole?  Is that too much for a girl to ask?

Anywho....This is what we wore:

Monday night (our last night) we try the Mexican place.  I mean we are in Mexico, can they really screw up Mexican food?  Oh they can.  They can.  We may or may not have eaten fileted iguana.  Let's just say that the flank steak had a "questionable" texture.  After gagging on the first bite, I look over to see Jeree trying to hide hers under her mashed potatoes.  I tell her "this is ridiculous" and then feign illness so we could escape from the dining room without having to tell the waitstaff, chef, and manager that there food was inedible.  Win.

Thanks to the fine gourmet dining (read: shit show) we were anxious to get back to the states for some real FOOD.  So Tuesday we got up early, took in the last few rays of sunshine, and headed home.

Thankfully no one ended up with Montezuma's revenge and we returned home safely.  I came home to two sick kids.  Jeree returned (after being stuck in Atlanta for two days) to a hurricane-ravaged NJ, power outages, and gas shortages.  Vacation may be fun for a little while, but even though it may not always be perfect, there really is no place like home.

It's Friday!

Don't get me wrong, I love my kiddos, but when it's Fashion Week of Rochester and I could be sitting in a VIP seat at the fashion show at Culver Road Armory and hobknobbing with Rochester's finest at the after party at TRATA, let's just say it makes it tough to sit at my kitchen table in my jammies because I couldn't find a babysitter.  How's that for a run-on sentence?  You know what, I don't even care. 

Since I'm not out being fabulous but facebooking instead, I figured I might as well do the outfit post I've been putting off since Sunday.  Hey, I've been working on my Fall Trend Watch for Rochester A-List all week.  Make sure you check it out.

Well without further ado, some fall fashion from yours truly.  #OOTDLS (Outfit of the Day Last Sunday) featuring top and sweater from Anthropologie, Fabianelli boots, a.n.a. jeans via JCPenney, J.CREW necklace via ebay, Michael Kors watch and earrings from a boutique in St. Augustine whose name is escaping me.  Enjoy!
