Three Steps to Simple Style

Despite what you may think, looking put together doesn't require a ton of time and energy.  Today I am  going to show you how to put together an outfit in three simple steps using items you already have in your wardrobe.  Who's excited?

Before we get started, let's get one thing straight.  I'm going to assume you have pants on.  If you don't, put some on.  Pretty much any pants will do aside from sweats pants, other lounge pants, pajama jeans etc.  We're talking actual pants, with structure, and maybe even a zipper.

Ok let's begin.

Step 1:  Put on a graphic tee.  (You can wear a plain tee if you're boring.)

Step 2:  Slap on a cardigan - maybe in a bright color.  I chose emerald green, which happens to be Pantone's color for 2013.  (What can I say?  I'm cool like that.)

Step 3:  Add a scarf

Is anyone else singing this blog post like the Special Agent Oso song?  (If you have a preschooler and the Disney channel you'll know what I'm talking about)

Tee + Cardi + Scarf = simple, easy style.  This isn't rocket science people.

One Sweater - Two Looks

I love taking pieces I already have to create new looks; I also like to travel light.  So these looks actually have more in common than my favorite (new) old man sweater.  Both outfits feature the same sweater, earrings, watch, tights, vintage ring and cowboy boots; yet each look has its own unique feel.

Here I am this morning at Englewood Cemetery:

The first outfit I wore yesterday in New York City.  I spent the afternoon walking around Central Park and met some friends for dinner at Stecchino wine bar and bistro in Hell's Kitchen.  The second outfit I wore to a memorial service for my great aunt Virginia.  I think verstatile peices are the key to any wardrobe.  When you can mix and match what you have to create many different looks, your closet just seems bigger.

With that said, I have to know:  which look did you like best?

Just In Case Summer Never Comes

If you are like me, you are dying to wear your summer wardrobe.  Unfortunately, Rochester weather is not cooperating.  Have no fear!  You can make your summer stuff work even when the temps are still a little chilly.

Think: cardis and tights!  Cardis and tights!  Cardis and tights!

I've been itching to wear this strapless Maple geo-printed silk dress that I got on sale at Anthropologie:

I decided to wear it to ROC the Runway, but that night it was 37 and sleeting.  Boo!  Have no fear!  Some tights and a cardi and I was good to go!

But that's a topic for another day!

This whole cardi/tights mantra works with shorts too.  (This was very popular last fall).  I haven't tried it out yet, but if this weather sticks I might have to!  Its a great versatile look that can be dressed up or down.
