I'm Not Here.

No really...

Today, I'm guest blogging over at Jake's Journey to be a Little Man:  Moving Forward in the World of Apraxia.  I'll be sharing our own apraxia journey and talking about our experience in Michigan at Summer SPEAK with Nancy Kaufman.  Part one is up today and part two will be posted on Thursday.  So, come on over to Tori Starling's wonderful blog - I'd love for you to "meet" one of my blogging heroes and one of the best mamas I "know."

Here's what Tori has to say about herself and her blog (Jake's Journey):

My name is Tori and I am a happily married, thirty-something, with three boys (ages 14, 8, and 3). Yes, my kids are all in drastically different phases of their life right now! I have worn many hats in my adult life, but currently I am a stay-at-home mom who is still baffled at just how busy this job keeps me. I am not starting this blog because I have extra time on my hands, I have started it because I feel an overwhelming responsibility to share all that I have learned on my journey with apraxia. Also, I have a Journalism degree and this is my way of putting it to some use.

Jake is the baby of our family and he got diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech in September of 2011, on his third birthday. Since he was born we have battled ear infections, eczema, asthma, food allergies, and now a speech disorder. I am not a SLP and I am not a MD, but I am a mother who started out innocent to all the worries that come with a child and now feel quite experienced in this job.

After two years of my vision being blurred by questions and confusion, things are finally becoming focused, and that is why I begin. This blog is my way of turning a negative into a positive, making lemonade out of lemons, seizing the moment, and taking advantage of the opportunity God has given me to learn so much about a topic I never thought would concern me.

My hope is to make life a little easier for any parent who has been faced with the challenges of raising a child with apraxia or food allergies. There’s a lot of information out there and I hope to bring the best to you!

I'm Down With NYC

Hey New Jersey, I'm baaaaaack!  After not being home for almost a year, it feels great to be back for a visit.  The hubs and I drove down yesterday morning, dropped the kids off at grandma's, and headed into the city for dinner and a show.  My best friend and her husband live in Midtown, so we met them at Lime Jungle for some mexican and $5 'ritas and then headed to the Nederlander Theatre for Newsies!

I'm not going to lie, I was super excited.  I probably watched Newsies 6,000 times as a kid.  This is back when I was in love with Christian Bale (who's kidding who? I still am) and had delusions about being a broadway star despite the fact that I'm tone deaf (ok that might still be true too).  Needless to say, I've been looking forward to this show (and having a babysitter!) for weeks.  After trying on ten different outfits this is what I decided on:

Things have officially broken down.  This is my Broadway pose.

And we're walking...

The show far exceeded my expectations.  I loved every second.  And after twenty years, I'm still in love with Jack Kelly and still get heart pangs watching the actors on stage.  Seeing their joy during curtain calls just made me ache for that adrenaline rush.  I think being a performer is in your blood.  It's definitely in mine and I need to find a way back to the stage.  Maybe in five years when Cooper is in kindergarten...but that's another story for another day.

All in all it was a great night spent doing what I love with people I love.  Win.  Win.

After vacillating over what to do with this 'lil blog 'o mine.  I have decided to make a second blog that will link directly to this one.  It will be accessible under the Flower City Fashion tab and its sole purpose will be to promote Rochester NY fashion and local businesses.

In true gemini fashion, I had two things going on here: a personal life and style blog and a desire to promote local small businesses and support  Rochester NY's budding fashion scene.

I also noticed two distinct groups of readers and feel this is the best way to satisfy everyone's needs (including my own). I mean this is my party and I'll write two blogs if I want to.

So please pardon our appearance as we transition to a platform that can meet everyone's needs.

The Flower City Fashionista will transition into being solely my humor and snarky take on a personal life and style blog and local goodies will be found by clicking the Flower City Fashion tab.  Got it?  Good.
