Letters to Santa

Dear Santa,

Colten decided he would take it easy on you this year.  Along with the help of his mommy he has created an amazon wish list for your convenience.  He thought you might be shopping online this year to avoid the crowds.  I tried to explain that elves make your toys, but he insisted you shop at the mall.  Kids these days!

Here is the link to his "wants" - let me warn you that they are quite extensive - just keep in mind that he is pretty cute and his mommy is part of amazon's affiliate program.  I tried to get him to scale it back, but he insisted you have "lots of money...lots."

Well, without further ado, Colten's Christmas List 2012

someecards.com - I'd like some Rescue Bots, Jake and the Pirates, a spaceship a flashlight, and Botox for my mommy. I think I'm giving her wrinkles...

Here's to hoping he's on the nice list,

xoxo

Colten's mommy

PS- While people are putting in their requests.  I would love a love a live in nanny, personal chef, house keeper, and personal trainer.  If that's too much I'll settle for Botox and laser hair removal.  I've been extra good this year.  Thanks so much.  Love ya.  Mean it.  xoxo  Jenny

PSS- Or you can just get me these Coach sunglasses:

Thanks!  Merry Christmas!

Fright Night

And no, I'm not talking about the approach of Halloween.  I'm talking about my evening beauty regimen.  Okay, maybe regimen isn't the right word, considering I can't remember the last time I used a deep cleaning mask, which may or may not be the reason my skin is breaking out worse than a PMSing 14-year-old the night before cheerleading tryouts.  So, I decided to finally use that sample of Origins Clear Improvement active charcoal mask that's been hanging out in my medicine cabinet for the last six months.

Last night, I opened my pores, slathered it on, and allowed it to dry.  My poor husband unknowingly walked in on this lovely display:

I'm not naked I swear.
And gasped in horror.

After assuring him it would wash off, I showed him this collage I made for the blog:

His response:  "You sure you want to do that to yourself?"

Me:  "Are you kidding?  This is top notch blog material!"

The verdict:  My skin (whilst still pimple ridden) feels much cleaner and smoother, not to mention that I sure did look purty with it on.  And yes, I'm wearing a hot pink turbie towel...what of it?

Hope your Wednesday is wonderful and your pores are clear!

xoxo

Jenny

PS- Thanks to amazon, you too, can look like me.  Because, honestly, who wouldn't want to give this look a try?  I hear it's all over the runways this fall. ;)

Reading List

I'm not going to pretend that a great deal of my time is spent doing leisure reading.  These days most of it occurs on the toilet.  (I apologize for the unpleasant mental image).  When you're a mama of two the word "leisure" in general tends to be a non sequitur, but if I had my way I'd figure out how to get paid to read.  I could read all day every day.  Happiness for me, truly is a good book.

And guess what?  I just read one!  And I "know" the author.

The super talented Rebecca Cooper Thumann is my blogger friend and soul sister, who happens to have the one up on me in the novel department.  She has written three.  Oh yes.  Three.  I have written: none.  Not that I want to.  I'm pretty sure I couldn't write a novel if my life depended on it.  I can read them.  I can write about them.  But write them?  Hell to the no.

But this sweet, kind-hearted girl has written three.  They are all Pride and Prejudice fanfic.  (I told you we were soul sisters!)  And so far I've read her first novel The London Chronicles, which I loved despite her warning me of an errant typo or two.  I wanted to read her first book first, because I am the kind of geek who enjoys seeing someone evolve as a writer.  I can't wait to read Lost Along the Way, which is sitting on my nightstand as we speak.

In my humble opinion, The London Chronicles was a terrific debut novel.  I loved the story, and while the themes of Pride and Prejudice are apparent, I didn't feel like I was reading a cheap imitation.  It would easily stand alone as a lovely, albeit at times suspenseful, love story, without the Austen connection.  The characters are well-developed, the story line holds your interest, and the pacing was perfect.  It's a funny, thrilling, and feel-good book.  Think: Bridget Jones meets Knotting Hill meets Sex in the City with a touch of John Grisham just for good measure.   Is it chick lit?  Yes.  Is it predictable?  Sure.  Should you read it?  Yes.  Will you love it?  Absolutely.  Will you find yourself asking "Christian who?"  Yeah, probably.  Mr. Grey has nothing on Christopher Harrington (except maybe that stack of psychotherapy bills from Dr. Flynn).

Why waste time, get your copy here:

I can't wait to hear what you think!

Maybe I can start my own book club - like Oprah - only without her tv show, readership, or bank roll...

All in favor of  a monthly column titled The Fashionista's Fiction Picks say "aye."

Here's September's reading list.  You can read one or all four!

Happy Reading!

xoxo

Big Announcement!

No, I'm not pregnant.

Remember when I disappeared from the blogging world in the beginning of the summer?  No?  Well, I was MIA for a few weeks because I was up to my eyeballs in Christian Grey.  Hey, there are worse things right?   I am thrilled to announce that I am one of the writers contributing to Lori Perikin's book Fifty Writers on Fifty Shades of Grey being published in November.  Go ahead, jump up and down and clap - I did!

I am beyond excited to be included with this group of writers. It is going to be an amazing book!  I'll be sure to keep you updated with any happenings related to my debut as a published essayist!  Can't wait to read what I had to say about Fifty?  Feel free to pre-order your copy here:

For those of you out there scratching your heads as to how this all happened, that's a story for another day.  What I will tell you is that (despite the quality of writing on this blog) I do in fact have an English degree, am a published poet (crazy right?) and was an adjunct professor prior to popping out the kiddos.  Sure, I love to shop, and I'm not afraid to work for shoes (or a statement necklace for that matter), but my real passion is writing and literature.  This book project couldn't have come at a better time.  I had no idea how much I truly missed it; it was like reuniting with an old friend.

Now I just need to worry about how to explain the mature subject matter to my grandpa, my dad, my in-laws and my 93-year old Pop-Pop...

Any advice?

Would love to hear your thoughts on that!

xoxo

Spanx You Very Much

Look out, I am about to mention your unmentionables: Spanx. Sara Blakely, the creator of Spanx made it "her mission to make the world a better place, one butt at a time" and I thank God every day she took on such a noble cause.

There are many different brands of shapewear out there, but Spanx is, by far, the best on the market. All the celebrities wear them - so even if you can't have their personal trainers and macrobiotic diets, you can wear their girdles! I discovered Spanx a few years ago and am not sure how I ever lived without them. They are miracle workers: getting rid of lumps, bumps, and pantylines to give you a smoother, firmer look.

I went to SoLia Boutique in Pittsford today to pick up my Skinny Britches, Spanx's line of summer shapewear. I already have what I refer to as my "industrial strength" Spanx, but they are a little much for the warmer months. Today's 80 degree temperatures prompted me to make a beeline to SoLia for my skinny britches!  They have some adorable dresses in right now, so you might want to take a look at those while you are there. You'll need something fabulous to wear over your Spanx, right?  If you're a girl on a budget, your Spanx will be the best $42 you ever spend.  I mean, why spend a fortune on a new wardrobe, when you can look thinner and smoother in the one you already have? It's a no-brainer!

So if you are ready to say "bye bye muffin top," "au revoir cellulite,"and "get lost VPL," get your Spanx at SoLia Boutique on Monroe Ave in Pittsford.  And if you needed some addition motivation, their Royal Sale starts tomorrow:

I am totally geeking out over the royal wedding.  Anyone else with me?

Don't live in Rochester? That's ok! Thank God for Amazon:

What are you waiting for? Go get your Spanx! Dare to dimple no more! Happy Smoothing!
