Saturday Night Fever

Last Saturday night THIS happened:
I went from housewife to disco diva.
It's not every day I get to rock and afro and platforms (and its a damn shame) but at the Ugly Disco this type of attire isn't just accepted, it's encouraged.  The more outrageous, the better, and all of the proceeds go to charity.  Win-Win.

God knows I love to dress up.  As a kid, I won the costume contest at the Ringwood Firehouse every Halloween.  The kids on the bus started teasing me saying that it was rigged and that they knew my uncle was the judge.  Neither was true. I just had the best costumes EVER and when this girl has a costume on she gets into CHARACTER.  You put a Southern Belle outfit on my six-year-old self and you better know I'm rocking a southern accent complete with a Scarlett O'Hara "fiddle dee dee" to boot.  When I was dressed up as Nefretiri and you thought I was Cleopatra, I not only corrected you, but also quoted lines from The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston.  I'm a winner; a dress up winner.  Just ask the kids on bus route HB-2.

At thirty, things aren't much different.  Throughout the course of the evening, I definitely heard myself say (out loud and on instagram) "Step aside Foxy Brown, there's a new 'fro in town."

But honestly, can you blame me?

I mean, check this out:

We're like twins for crying out loud!
All proceeds went to benefit Golisano Children's Hospital, a cause near and dear to my heart.  It was a great night for a great cause and I'm already planning my outfit for next year...

Ugly Disco 2013

Let me leave you with the infinite wisdom of those wise philosophers otherwise known as A Taste of Honey:

"If you're thinkin' you're too cool to boogie, Boy, oh boy have I got news for you
Everybody here tonight must boogie
Let me tell ya' you are no exception to the rule
Get on up on the floor
Cuz we're gonna boogie oogie oogie til you just can't boogie no more."

Peace out,

xoxo

Rochester's White Party

Photo
"Experience an evening of old world charm at the Century Club of Rochester, one of East Avenue’s few remaining mansions. This stately residence will provide you with elegance, beauty and sophistication while you stroll up the winding staircase, mingle in the grand solarium, and walk the historic gardens. Laugh and socialize for a great cause under our grand white tent and enjoy the stars among the city lights."

I'm not going to lie, I'm totally psyched for Rochester's first ever White Party on September 8th to benefit AIDS Care.  The event is being held at the Century Club of Rochester on East Avenue and runs from 6:30 PM to midnight. There will be live entertainment by local musicians, drag queens, tarot card readings, dancing, tons of delicious food and spirits, and its all for a good cause!

Tickets are expected to sell out, and there is a tiered ticket price system:

June 5 - July 15: $100 per person/$180 per couple
July 16 - August 15: $125 per person/$240 per couple
After August 15: $150 per person/$275 per couple

Don't have your ticket yet?  Get yours here.

The next (obvious) step is figuring out what to wear...

I am hoping that this lovely number is waiting for me in Rochester (and that the size 8 fits... I ordered a 6 at first but let's just say it was the old 10lbs of sausage in the 5lb bag trick... not pretty).  Did I mention Nordstrom is now sold out?  If the 8 doesn't fit I am SOL!  Say a prayer.

I'm thinking hair down, simple makeup, red lip.  Now I need to find the perfect chandelier earrings and metallic shoes...

So my only questions for you are:  1. Are you going?   2.  What are you wearing?

New Boutique Opens Friday

Fahsye, which means "clear skies" in Thai, is sure to be the next go-to accessories boutique here in Rochester.  Located on North Winton just blocks off of the 490 exit, Fahsye carries beautiful jewelry, scarves, and bags.  The boutique decor is stunning and the merchandise has been carefully selected to bring a variety of options for any taste and budget.

Yesterday I was fortunate enough to attend their  preview party and get the first look at their products before they open to the public Friday.  Here is what I left with:
Earrings Fahsye $15
Necklace Fahsye $27

Fahsye and its super sweet and personable owner Fon are a welcome addition to the Rochester fashion scene.  You definitely want to pay them a visit.
